The Minnesota Timberwolves sent shockwaves through the NBA on Monday night, dismantling the reigning champion Denver Nuggets 106-80 in a dominant display. Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns led the charge for the Wolves, combining for 54 points as Minnesota took a surprising 2-0 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
Defensive Masterclass
The story of the game was Minnesota’s stifling defense. In the absence of their defensive anchor Rudy Gobert, the Timberwolves held Denver to a dismal 29-of-83 shooting performance. Coach Chris Finch praised Gobert’s impact on the team’s defensive culture, crediting his leadership even from afar.

Edwards and Towns were unstoppable offensively, each pouring in 27 points. The dynamic duo propelled the Wolves to a 6-0 record in the playoffs and puts them in a prime position to close out the series at home.
Nuggets Frustration Boils Over

The Nuggets’ struggles were evident not just in their shooting woes, but also in their frustration. Coach Michael Malone received a technical foul for arguing with an official, and Jamal Murray threw a heat pack onto the court in a moment of anger. Murray’s actions will likely result in a fine from the NBA.
Can the Nuggets Bounce Back over Timberwolves
The outlook for Denver appears bleak. Aaron Gordon was their lone bright spot with 20 points, while Nikola Jokic’s double-double wasn’t enough to overcome Minnesota’s dominance. The Nuggets now face an uphill battle, needing to win four out of the next five games against a red-hot Timberwolves team.
Looking Ahead
Despite the lopsided victory, the Timberwolves remain cautious. Karl-Anthony Towns emphasized their focus on staying humble and taking things one game at a time. However, Edwards expects a more determined Denver squad in Game 3 at Target Center.
This series has taken a dramatic turn. Can the Timberwolves complete the upset, or will the Nuggets find a way to claw their way back? Tune in for Game 3 to find out!
